Art Nouveau

The main characteristic of the new style was the use of plant forms sinuous or writhing and usually elongated. These lines applied to other shapes and subjects gave Art Nouveau its famous "whiplash" look.

Art Nouveau Dressing Table Chair.

A very decorative vintage mahogany dressing table in Art Nouveau style dating from the early 20th century. A very stylish chair it has a pagoda style top bar and shaped back splat which is decorated with a typical Art Nouveau design inlaid with mother of pearl. It stands on slender legs with pad feet. It has been newly reupholstered in a chenille fabric depicting red, gold and stylised flowers on a bronze background.

Vintage Painted Art Nouveau Style Hall Chair
A small and highly decorative vintage chair made from solid wood which has been painted with an ebonised finish with leaves and cherries in an Art Nouveau design. There is a heart shaped cut out on the back splat with an Art Nouveau style scroll around it. It has an irregular octagonal seat and stands on turned legs.
Solid Wood.
Solid condition, wear and marks commensurate with age. An old mended split to the legs underneath. Here.
